10 Can’t Miss Beers at Flying Saucer’s Fort Worth BeerFeast

Written by: Andy Cope

The 13th Annual Fort Worth Flying Saucer BeerFeast lands in beautiful Sundance Square Plaza on Saturday, October 6th.

BeerFeast is a chance for beer fans to sample over 120 hand-picked, world-class, kickass beers from around the globe. We’re talking beers from Germany, the UK, Belgium, the US (of course), South America, and Japan. Draught, bottles, cans. This is literally a selection of some of the world’s best beers that you will be able to taste one-after-another. (Where the hell else can you do that?)

And the man who chose those beers? Flying Saucer Beer Director, Marc Castaldo. We can’t even imagine how tough a job this was. (Actually we can. We heard the sounds of indecision coming from his office. We saw the fist-shaped holes in his walls. We witnessed the hairy giant of a man sobbing while curled up into a ball in the corner of a quiet room.)

We asked Marc to pick some can’t miss beers from his (dare we say?) immaculate list. Marc bravely obliged and produced a list of 10 Can’t Miss Beers Beerknurds will be able to find at Fort Worth BeerFeast. Here is that list (in no particular order…we’re not barbarians) along with some insight/notes from Marc.

10 CAN’T MISS BEERS AT FORT WORTH BEERFEAST

FUNKWERKS DECEIT (Fort Collins, CO) – A Belgian-Style Golden Strong Ale. Bronze Medal winner at World Beer Cup and a Gold Medal at 2012 GABF. Named for it’s easy drinking 8.5%abv, it presents flavors of pineapple and citrus with subtle spice notes.

GIGANTIC KISS THE GOAT (Portland OR.) – A Black Dopplebock. Perfect beer for the fall and winter seasons – a rich, bready malt bill with slight hints of chocolate. Gigantic Brewing is known for employing artists to produce their label art. South Korean born Jon Macnair is known for creating art that is Folkloric and Mystical in it’s narrative. Check it out: http://www.jonmacnair.com/

SIXPOINT CITRUS JAMMER (Brookly, NY) – Gose-style beer with lemon-lime notes. Refreshingly tart. It’s great for sunny days anywhere.

SANTA FE OKTOBEREST (Sante Fe, NM.) – Munich malts and Bavarian hops make for the perfect Marzen Beer. Prost! (EDITORIAL STAFF NOTE – the best Oktoberfest-style beer produced in the U.S. Come at us, bro!)

GREAT DIVIDE COLLETTE (Denver, CO.) – Brewed with four different yeasts to give it a unique flavor it is a true representation of the Farmhouse Ales enjoyed in Belgium for centuries.

ANCHORAGE THE TIDE AND ITS TAKERS (Anchorage, AK.) – The base beer is a Belgian-style Triple boasting a 9% ABV that is then aged in oak chardonnay barrels and spiked with Brettanomyces. This will be a very limited VIP-only beer at the 2018Flying Saucer Fort Worth BeerFeast.

BRUERY TERRUEX FOEDER #3 (Anaheim, CA.) – A dark sour ale with an abundance of stone fruit flavors. Another limited VIP-only beer at this years’ BeerFeast in Sundance Square Plaza Fort Worth.

SCHNEIDER & SOHN WEISSE (Bavaria, German) – Having saved the style from near extinction in the 19th century by purchasing the rights to brew it from King Ludwig II, the Schneider brewery still uses the same recipe today.

REAL ALE NOMAD (Blanco, TX) – Set quietly in the Texas Hill Country they have been making quality ales and lagers since 1996. They are a gigantic part of the Texas brewing heritage. DO NOT MISS Nomad, a 7% Belgian Style Blonde Ale.

SIERRA NEVADA BREWING (Chico, CA) – “Family owned, operated, and argued over.” Pretty much says it all. Would there be an American Craft Brewing industry if Ken Grossman hadn’t tracked down used dairy equipment to repurpose into brewing equipment? No need to answer that. We’re honored to be pouring Otra Vez (Gose), Hazy Little Thing (unfiltered IPA), and their iconic Pale Ale.

(So, technically, Marc listed 12 beers. You’re welcome, America.)
