It’s the mission and duty of Flying Saucer to help spread the good news about great beer. We recently discussed the news of Alpine Beer Co. making its way to Texas, thanks to its partnership with Green Flash Brewing Co.
Well, the time has come, and Alpine has landed.
San Diego-based Alpine loves its hops and it’s looking like Texas Beerknurds dig them, too. Saucers across the Lone Star State dedicated an entire week to help introduce the microbrewery and its offerings. In Houston, a different Alpine beer was tapped each day over the course of a week: Nelson Rye IPA, Duet IPA, Hoppy Birthday (pale ale), Alpine Ale (pale ale) and Alpine Irish Red. Other stores had their own special release events.
Pat McIlheny, Alpine Beer Co.’s founder/owner/brew master, was guest of honor at a special beer dinner at one of the Saucer’s sister establishments, Dallas’ Meddlesome Moth.
“People were excited. Pat was great. One of the best speakers to grace the Moth,” says Matt Quenette, Meddlesome Moth beer director and Certified Cicerone.
Alpine currently holds EIGHT of BeerAdvocate’s Top 250 Beers (FOUR in the top 100) and is winning over Texans one sip at a time. It’s looking like the Nelson is the clear Beerknurd choice, with the Irish Red being the favorite of insiders and experts.
According to Quenette when asked about how the beers were being received: “Nelson, Duet and Hoppy Birthday are all favorites, but the Irish Red is great in my opinion.”
Now that Alpine has finally made the journey eastward, we invite Beerknurds to come taste it for themselves. So next time you visit your local Saucer or any of our sister stores, do yourself a favor and give the Alpine offerings a shot. You’ll be glad you did.
