Black Friday Flying Saucer

Flying Saucer’s Black Friday Brews

Written by: Andy Cope

It’s a day for those who love the dark, big, deep, rich beers. We’re talking the darkest of dark, biggest of big, deepest of deep and richest of rich. Barrel-aged and special blends, some with ABVs big enough to ground a thundering bull. Imperial Stouts, Baltic Porters, Quads, Barleywines. People will line up at breweries and hound their local bottle shop for this year’s newest juice. People will scroll social media, pound chat boards and call their local Saucer just to get any update on when special releases will be landing and those beers that warm us to our soul will again be made available.

That day is Black Friday and it’s the day thousands and thousands of beer lovers look forward to year-round. It’s a day too perfect to not celebrate the dark beers winter makes us crave so much.

If Black Friday is second only to Stout Day as your favorite holiday — well, Flying Saucer is your huckleberry, Beerkurds. After you shake off the 20 pounds of food you ate on Turkey Day and drown the 2AM doorbuster wakeup call with enough coffee to raise the dead, safely make your way to the Saucer to partake in some of the most bad ass brews of the year. Here’s some of what we’ll be tapping on Black Friday to help you get your head right and warm your bones for the rest of the holiday season.

Check your local Saucer what they’ll be doing Black Friday and come and spend some time with us and your other family.

Nashville Flying Saucer

Bell’s Black Note Barrel-Aged Stout

The fine folks at Nashville Flying Saucer are pulling this bottle out for this special occasion. The beer folk go crazy for this one which is a blend of two of Bell’s already delicious stouts, Expedition and Double Cream. Then, it does its thing in bourbon barrels and comes out all velvety and fine on the other side.

Green Flash Silva Stout

When you put Green Flash’s Double Stout in bourbon barrels for seventeen months you get Green Flash Silva Stout, a complex beer if we ever did drink one. The heat and oakiness from the barrels is balanced by a dose of fresh Double Stout to give you a fully enjoyable adventure with rich dark chocolate that’s both roasty and fruity at the same time with some vanilla to make it all well-rounded.

Against the Grain Gnight Ryder Imperial Black Ale

Because darkness can take its grip on everything, Against the Grain has brought forth this beauty of an Imperial Black Ale that’s been aged in red wine barrels. It’s got the bitterness and spice to wake you up and a dry fruitiness to keep you interested.

Kansas City Flying Saucer

Perennial Abraxas

Kansas City Flying Saucer is actually tapping this bad boy on Thanksgiving Day. Hey. Black Friday deals start earlier and earlier each year. See if you can dip into some of this Imperial Stout filled with ancho chili peppers, cacao nibs, vanilla beans and cinnamon sticks from one hell of a brewery in Missouri.

Austin Flying Saucer

Goose Island BCBS

Do we really have to say anything? If you haven’t had this, THIS is your opportunity. Get to the Austin Flying Saucer and just give it a taste. See if it’s worth the hype.

Little Rock Flying Saucer

Bells BA Expedition Stout

A Russian Imperial stout that has blazed a trail for other Russian Imperial Stouts here in America. Let this one just coat your mouth in the slightly-boozy, chewy, oily way it does and then, make you its lover with loads of chocolate, caramel, some sour and dark fruits and coffee. Why, hello Black Friday.

Wiseacre Starless Schwarzbier

Putting up a Schwarzbier on Black Friday? That’s inventive and we like it. A style that doesn’t exactly immediately come to the mind of many Americans, Schwarzbier is one of the world’s oldest styles of beer. Literally meaning “black beer”, Schwarzbier is a dark beer full of roasty, toasty malts. Wiseacre’s version is no exception. Loads of roasted coffee, toffee, and cocoa fill your mouth without the bitterness than can accompany stouts.

Wiseacre Gotta Get Up to Get Down

What’s wrong with a good, old-fashioned Coffee Milk Stout on Black Friday? Weighing in at 5% ABV, Wiseacres GGUTGD is something you can have a few of over the course of the day without being glued down to your chair. And we think that’s a good thing. Plus, this sweet stout loaded with coffee pairs perfectly with those slices of pie from Thanksgiving.

Bell’s Christmas Ale

Another sessionable alternative to the bombastic stouts and quads, Bell’s Christmas Ale is a Scotch Ale with lots of caramel flavor and a hint of spice that doesn’t slap you in the face like your mother when you tell her the turkey is dry. It’s a gentle introduction to the holidays that you need. Plus, it’s low ABV. So, let the holidays sink in.

Lagunitas Night Time

Oh man, a citrusy trip for the dark beer lover. Like slipping into the deep end of Christmas as the hints of pine and resin are perfectly balanced with a roasty chocolate/coffee flavor. It’s kind of like enjoying a bit of dessert after you put up the Christmas tree, but not as sweet or as punch-you-in-the-face pine sappy. What a treat.
