You may have noticed a special section on the Flying Saucer Draught Emporium menu. A section labeled “Ghost Beers.” You may have even already investigated and participated in the Ghost Beer Gauntlet. If not, you’re probably wondering what it is.
With more and more beers coming to market every day, we’re challenged with deciding which of these new options we should support. Which should get one of those taps on the wall? Well, it was time to take a step back and examine the greater questions of what it is we’re drinking and why.
This is what we landed upon: at the end of the day, it should be about two things: supporting the people doing it right and how the beer tastes.
Enter: The Ghost Beer Gauntlet
THE FLYING SAUCER GHOST GAUNTLET
This is the ultimate challenge to taste, perception, and clever marketing. Four beers offered up to blindly taste and score solely upon that — TASTE. Only the best of the best will survive to earn a spot on the tap wall.
Every two weeks a new round of four ghost beers are added to the menu. What are they? That’s a secret and your challenge. Only the GM knows what they are. But you can trust that these are beers that we’d be proud to have on our tap wall from breweries doing things right. But we want you to help us decide. So, ask your server questions about each Ghost Beer. Order one up. Give it a taste. Give it another taste. Gather your thoughts.
Your Beer Goddess will bring out a special tablet to give you the opportunity to score that beer. Right there on the tablet, you can give that beer a score of one to five stars. Then, you can make your best guess as to style and brewery.
TASTE. VOTE. GUESS.
During each unique round, you can view the daily updates of the scoring right up on the blackboard behind the bar. Each and every star you give a Ghost Beer makes a difference. You have the power to move that beer one step closer to making the Flying Saucer menu. But remember, with great power comes great responsibility.
At the end of the two-week round, the highest scoring beer will be revealed and will make its way onto our menu alongside other Transcendent and Exceptional offerings. The beers that didn’t make the cut will vanish leaving only the best beer behind for you to enjoy. You’ll receive an email reminding you of your guess that will either confirm that your taste buds are on point — or turn your beer world upside down.
This is where you just might realize that you actually do like that style you’ve long held at arm’s length. Never fancied yourself a sour beer person? Never explored the vastness of Pilsners? Overwhelmed by all the IPAs? This is how your beer mind can be blown and your love of beer can grow!
THE POWER IS YOURS
Those Beerknurds that guessed correctly will be celebrated as the heroic geniuses they are. All the while, the best beers worthy of our support will get just that. We’ll all be able to celebrate the winner by ordering a glass again and again.
