Jérôme Rebetez, owner of acclaimed Swiss brewery Brasserie des Franches-Montagnes, recently brought his expertise, passion and, more importantly, his beer to the Fort Worth Flying Saucer. It was a wonderful afternoon of tasting and discussion.
The Fort Worth Saucer featured four beers from the brewery:
Jérôme’s beautifully tart barrel-aged Saison, which was originally released for the brewery’s 15th anniversary and is now an annually recurring favorite. It remains a staple on the draft wall in Fort Worth.
La Douze, his unique take on the Belgian pale ale, featuring salt and a lemony-to-floral hop profile.
The very herbal La Muele, with its marriage of grapefruit, lavender, soap, citrus and sage.
And finally, Cuvee Alex Le Rouge, the Jurassian Imperial Stout, a bold mix of black pepper, vanilla and whole tea leaves, draped in a vicious dark chocolate body.
Forgoing the typical Brewer’s Table, Jérôme instead chose to
mingle with the crowd. His laidback manner belies the serious Beerknurdy nature of his brews, and he quickly found a stool next to a few resident MOUs (Masters of the Universe), including our No. 2 plate holder, Robert Wynne.
Using his beers as a jumping-off point, the conversation quickly turned from Jérôme’s brewery to the broader world of craft beer. Inquisitive and introspective, our regulars feverishly ordered their favorite local brews to give him a taste of Texas.
Bridging the Atlantic divide over a pint (or three), Jon Lundenbom, of importer B United, and Melissa Green, with distributor Favorite Brands, bellied up with Jérôme.
We were very honored to have Jérôme make the long journey to Fort Worth and spend time with his fans. Special gatherings like these are what excite us about the world of craft beer. Make sure you’re following your local Saucer on social media to know about future events and happenings.
